HAZWOPER Hazardous Materials Technician
This HAZWOPER Hazardous Materials Technician Level course is intended for workers involved in emergency response to hazardous materials spill incidents.
Hazardous materials technicians are individuals who respond to releases or potential releases for the purpose of stopping the release. They assume a more aggressive role than a first responder at the operations level in that they will approach the point of release in order to plug, patch or otherwise stop the release of a hazardous substance. Hazardous materials technicians shall have received at least 24 hours of training equal to the first responder operations level and in addition have competency in the areas described below.

This fulfills your OSHA training requirement under 29 CFR 1910.120(q) for either the initial or annual refresher training requirement. This course is a minimum of eight (24) hours in length.
Course Objectives:
The structure and objectives of this online training course are centered around the requirements outlined in the HAZWOPER regulation. Each unit is based on one or more of the following requirements.

Upon completion of this program, the participants will be able to:

Explain how to implement the Hospital’s Emergency Operations Plan

Describe air and environmental monitoring

Demonstrate competency in selecting and use of proper personal protective equipment

Explain site control, supervision and incident management

Demonstrate competency with hazard and risk assessment techniques

Explain how to perform advance control and/or confinement operations within PPE capabilities

Demonstrate decontamination procedures

Explain incident termination procedures
-
Explain basic chemical and toxicological terminology and behavior
